NXT Commentator and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has broken his silence on the recent release of Matt Riddle.

Riddle’s release reportedly occurred around 5:30pm ET on Friday, September 22, 2023.
The former two-time WWE Raw Tag Team Champion revealed the news himself on Twitter.
Following Riddle’s departure from the company, a WWE higher-up is reported to have said that Riddle had “burned through too many chances” during his time in the company.
As was mentioned in the initial story, Riddle did have some issues, including sexual assault allegations (from before he joined WWE), failed drug tests that led him to rehab, and the recent incident at LFK International Airport where he accused a cop of sexual assault but had himself been reported as being “disorderly”.

Booker T has now addressed Riddle’s release on his Hall of Fame podcast, saying:
“We were just talking about Riddle and what did I say that day? I said that’s only going to be tolerated so much. I think I said something like that.
“You know, you can get away with that kind of stuff only for so long. It catches up with you because then you become a liability.
“You don’t want people in the news for negative reasons. That’s the last thing you want.
“The last thing you need is having someone in the news for negative purposes.”

Riddle signed with WWE in July 2018 and would make his NXT debut in October of that year going on to his main roster debut in May 2020.
During his time in WWE, alongside his Raw Tag Team Championship reigns with Randy Orton, he was also a United States Champion and NXT Tag Team Champion with Butch (then Pete Dunne).
It has recently been reported that “at least one” major MMA promotion is interested in bringing in Matt Riddle.
