Following news of his potential exit, a new report has revealed Ricochet is “very likely” leaving WWE and an update on AEW’s interest.
As previously reported, Ricochet’s WWE contract is set to expire this summer.
PWInsider later reported that multiple sources have confirmed the former Intercontinental Champion has given notice that he intends to leave the company when his deal expires.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting that there is a high likelihood that Ricochet leaves WWE and the company expects him to land in All Elite Wrestling.
The report notes that creative measures have already been taken to write off the former United States Champion in the event he does leave. Part of this plan was Ricochet dropping the Speed Championship to Andrade at the June 7 SmackDown TV tapings.
However, sources in WWE creative have indicated that there are already other pitches on the table to effectively write Ricochet off the company’s programming if needed.
The report also notes that among those pitches includes a creative plan for Raw that would see Bron Breakker to take Ricochet out.
On AEW’s interest, staff and talent backstage this past week were discussing the possibility of Ricochet landing in the promotion.
There has not been any talks with AEW and Ricochet at the time of this writing as he is still under contract with WWE. Nothing is an impossibility at this point, but as of Friday, all indications were he had decided to leave the company.
In addition to AEW, NJPW is said to be interested in signing Ricochet as well.
JJA Sport Studio will provide any further updates on Ricochet’s WWE contract and possible interest from AEW when they become available.
