John Cena has named Roman Reigns as the GOAT of WWE over The Rock – saying it’s “amazing” that he has an “active talent” in that spot.

John Cena has revealed that he will retire from wrestling in 2025 with that year being his WWE retirement tour.
During an appearance on Club Shay Shay, Cena was asked who he would name as the GOAT of WWE, saying:

“Gosh, that’s a good question. I don’t think there’s a better breathing example of what’s the best the business has ever been than Roman Reigns.
“And, it’s amazing that I’m saying a still active talent with years in front of him is the greatest of all time.”

Cena would go on to lay down the logic behind his decision, stating:
“He’s been in it since 2012. I had to work my way up. I started on the bench, and then got onto the Saturday program and lost every match.
“He came in with the Shield, in a high-level spot, and never wavered, even when the fans didn’t like him. He was still in the main-event spot. He’s been in a main-event lens for over a decade now.”

He would reflect on the financial growth of WWE while Reigns has been in that position, noting:
“And he’s brought, through his clock—and you can say whatever forces helped it—but in 2012, the stock was trading at $11. WWE—or TKO stock—is now at $117. That’s on his shoulders. And I know it’s a team effort, nobody does it alone. … That’s some serious s**t.”

Cena would name The Rock as the second greatest in WWE history, noting that he did the same thing as Reigns during the 90s.
According to Cena, however, Reigns has done better ‘numbers’ than The Rock in their respective generations.
Roman Reigns recently made his return to WWE SmackDown, entering a feud with the Solo Sikoa-led iteration of The Bloodline.
It has been reported that the Reigns and The Bloodline story will culminate in a WarGames match at WWE Survivor Series in November 2024.
