Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has discussed wanting to bring a WWE premium live event to Africa.
On the October 8 edition of WWE NXT from St. Louis, Tony D’Angelo defeated Oba Femi to win the NXT North American Championship. Tony D’s win came off the heels of Femi breaking Wes Lee’s record for the longest reigning NXT North American Champion at 273 days.
Ahead of his title bout on NXT, Oba Femi spoke on Going Ringside and revealed he would love to see a WWE PLE come to Africa. He said:
“I feel like there’s a market in Africa that’s been unexplored for so many years.”
“We’ve had live shows go to South Africa, I believe, but I think it’s much bigger than just South Africa. The entire continent is riding hard for WWE, and once we tap into that market, it’s going to be unbelievable.”
“It’s not going to be easy because there will be culture shock and the fear of the unknown, along with other factors, but once we can weather that storm and reach that market—oh my God, I’m talking one of the hottest crowds the company has ever seen.”
“They would go ballistic for their King [Oba Femi], but they would go ballistic for everything for the product itself.”
Despite losing the NXT North American Championship, Femi seems destined for greater success in the future. Femi also talked about his plans to rise the ranks and propose an event in Africa, saying:
“Once I gain the equity, the respect, and the credibility to bring up such a topic, I will.”
Oba Femi discussed wanting to face John Cena before he retires from in-ring competition in 2025.
