Record breaking WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER was dropped by a surprising star after SmackDown went off the air.
The dominant champion was in action at Friday’s (February 9) SmackDown taping, facing off against Cameron Grimes in a dark match.
It was what happened after this untelevised match which has got fans talking, with R-Truth squaring up to the Ring General.
R-Truth surprisingly came out on top, hitting John Cena’s iconic comeback sequence and Five Knuckle Shuffle to send GUNTHER fleeing from the ring.
You can watch a clip of this moment below.
While some believe that WWE just wanted to end the segment on a high, others have called for R-Truth to challenge for GUNTHER’s Intercontinental Title.
GUNTHER and Truth have only had one televised singles match, with GUNTHER defeating Truth on the July 4, 2022 edition of Raw.
R-Truth did challenge for GUNTHER’s NXT UK Title during a May 2019 house show in Dorset, England.
GUNTHER is the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time, holding the title for 610 days as of Saturday (June 10).
