A WWE name has provided an update on AJ Styles, following Styles’ match being called off due to an injury on SmackDown.
The Phenomenal One returned to the ring on Friday’s (October 4) show, facing off against Carmelo Hayes in singles action.
Hayes was ultimately victorious via referee’s decision, with the official calling off the match after AJ Styles seemingly suffered an ankle injury.
Styles was shown having his foot examined backstage later on in the show, before it was announced that he had been taken to a local hospital.
WWE broadcaster Jackie Redmond has provided an update on the situation, taking to Twitter to note that Styles suffered a mid-foot ligament sprain during his match.
Redmond wrote:
Coming out of Smackdown last night, I can confirm that AJ Styles suffered a “mid foot ligament sprain” also known as a Lisfranc injury.

AJ will have an MRI later this week to determine the severity of the injury.
Prior to Redmond’s announcement, Fightful Select reported that the injury angle was planned, and that Styles was “fine”
