The Rock has shared an update on his potential blockbuster WWE WrestleMania 40 main event match with Roman Reigns.
Ahead of last Saturday’s Royal Rumble event (January 27), the question on every wrestling fans lips was whether we would see Cody Rhodes or The Rock be the one to step up to challenge Roman Reigns in the main event.
Rhodes had long been the frontrunner, however, following The Rock’s return on the Day 1 edition of WWE Raw things were less clear – with Rock teasing a match with the Head of the Table.
Now, while things are still not 100% set in stone for Philadelphia, we seem to have a pretty clear picture that Rhodes will be the one to challenge; this year at least.
But what does Rock have to say on the matter? Well, speaking ahead of the Rumble to Will Cain of Fox News on January 23 The People’s Champ shared some insight into the plans for the match behind the scenes.
Rock said:
“We’re talking about that right now. I like to consider myself a long-gamer and a builder.
“The idea of going up against Roman Reigns and creating, if we were to do something like that, quite possibly and I mean this respectfully of all the WrestleManias before…with all the success and build up of all the WrestleManias in the past, if we were to do something like that, we could possibly put on the biggest WrestleMania of all-time.
“Short answer and long answer is we’re figuring it out.”
Following Rhodes’ second-straight Rumble victory reports had stated that Rock vs Reigns was still planned for the future, however, this year it will be The American Nightmare in the top spot.
Despite that seeming to be the case however, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins has thrown a wrench into things by pleading with Rhodes to challenge him at WrestleMania instead of Reigns.
Doing so on both this week’s Raw (January 29) and on social media, Rhodes has now responded to The Visionary and revealed when we may find out his decision potentially.
