AEW’s approach for WWE WrestleMania 40 weekend in Philadelphia has bee revealed after numerous event announcements.
Tony Khan had previously mentioned that AEW had no plans to run shows over WrestleMania weekend, though various AEW stars have been announced for events over the week.
While AEW does not run shows over the week, Ring of Honor has ran events on WrestleMania week as a tradition dating back to 2004, well before Khan took ownership of the company.
Khan has maintained the tradition of ROH events running over WrestleMania week, and will continue this year with the Supercard of Honor event.
In an update from PWInsider, AEW are said to be fine with talents taking on signing appearances, such as at Wrestlecon and other events.
However, the company does not want talents wrestling over the week unless it is for a partner promotion, such as New Japan Pro Wrestling, DDT, Stardom or any other partner.
Both Stardom and DDT have events set for WrestleMania week.
In general, AEW talents usually have to get their independent dates approved to ensure they don’t conflict with AEW responsibilities, so there may always be exceptions to the rule, but AEW generally doesn’t want their talents wrestling at WrestleMania week events.
