An update has emerged on the absence of the Blackpool Combat Club’s absence from the AEW Tag Team Championship tournament.

A tag-team tournament is currently taking place to crown the next set of AEW Tag Team Champions, following Sting and Darby Allin relinquishing the gold.
When the bracket was revealed, many were surprised to see that Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli weren’t set to compete in the tournament, especially following the duo’s huge win over FTR at Revolution 2024.
Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Moxley and Castagnoli were planned for the ‘original version’ of the tournament.

Discussing their omission from the tournament, Meltzer wrote:
“Moxley & Castagnoli were in the original version of the tournament, but Moxley has been banged up and has dates in Mexico and Japan over the next few weeks.
“So they were taken out but it’s actually for the better because they can be used to face the winners after the tournament and won’t have had a loss in the tournament and you need to have something for the winners.”

Moxley hasn’t wrestled since he and Castagnoli defeated Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood of FTR at this month’s Revolution pay-per-view.
Castagnoli has returned to the ring since then, defeating Lance Archer in singles action on the March 16 edition of Collision.
FTR will compete in the tournament, with their round one match against the Infantry slated for the March 27 Dynamite episode.
