Former AEW TNT Champion Adam Copeland has commented on his recent surgery, explaining why the nature of the injury made his surgery complicated.
Copeland suffered a fracture to his Tibia during his Barbed Wire Steel Cage match against Malakai Black at AEW Double or Nothing.
The Rated-R Superstar recently confirmed that he had surgery, sharing a video less than 24 hours following his procedure.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Copeland noted that the surgery “got a little complicated” due to the nature of his break.
Copeland explained:
“I had the surgery on Monday, and it was a success. I guess it got a little complicated just because of where the break is. It’s kind of right above the ankle joint, which is called a peon fracture, apparently.
“So the cartilage between your ankle and your Tibia and Fibula got squished, and then the break. I guess there were shards of it too, so they had to try and compact it all with the plate and the screws.”
Copeland’s injury forced him to relinquish the TNT Championship, with it announced that the title had been vacated on the May 29 Dynamite episode.
The next champion will be determined in a ladder match, which is set to take place at the June 30 Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
