At AEW Double or Nothing on May 26, Adam Copeland suffered a broken leg that required surgery after his match with Malakai Black.
As previously reported, in the Barbed Wire Steel Cage match, Copeland hit an elbow drop on Black from the top of a steel cage, landing awkwardly.
It would later be confirmed that Copeland had broken his leg with the subsequent surgery being ‘a little complicated‘.
Copeland provided an update on his recovery from surgery in an interview with Sports Illustrated, saying:
“My Achilles tear a few years ago led to my most difficult rehab, and I’m expecting more of that.
“I’m 50. I know what’s in front of me. But the surgery was successful, and the doctor was optimistic because my bones are healthy.
“It’s my seventh surgery, so I know the drill. We’ll see how my body cooperates.”
Following the injury, Copeland relinquished the AEW TNT Championship with the title vacated on the May 29 episode of Dynamite.
At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 30, a new TNT Champion will be decided in a ladder match that will feature Konosuke Takeshita, Mark Briscoe and other participants.
Jack Perry faces Dustin Rhodes on the June 12 AEW Dynamite to decide who will enter the ladder match.
This will be followed by the June 15 AEW Collision which will see Dante Martin and Lee Moriarty go one-on-one for a place in the PPV match.
