A WWE Hall of Famer has said that AEW President Tony Khan reminds him of a “male version of Dixie Carter”.

Since officially departing WWE in 2023, four-time world champion Goldberg’s in-ring future has been the subject of much speculation.
The 57-year-old has been open about wanting to have a proper retirement match, which led many fans to believe that AEW could potentially be a route to make that happen if it wasn’t going to in WWE.
Goldberg’s links to AEW was something posed to Tony Khan on several occasions, with Khan revealing that he and the WWE legend had had conversations about potentially joining AEW.
These seemingly never went anywhere however, and now in an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Goldberg was asked why his talks with Khan didn’t lead to him appearing in the company.

Goldberg explained that he Khan had a “different perspective” on any potential plans, before drawing a comparison between Khan and former TNA Wrestling President Dixie Carter.
“I think we have a different perspective on it (joining AEW), I think. I don’t know, it’s hard to really pass judgment on their production because I don’t watch it, I see clips of it. And it’s hard to give a rational breakdown of how they are if I don’t watch it.
“He (Tony Khan) reminds me of Dixie Carter, but a male version. I don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing, but he reminds me of that scenario, and it’s just a different feel. It’s just different.”

On whether he was ever close to a deal with AEW:
“No, I don’t think I was ever close to making a deal with him. I think it was much more a realistic transition when Sting was involved. Because that’s why, I reached out to Sting because I wanted to be a part, I thought he and I could do a farewell thing at some point together.
“But it wasn’t about me, it was about Sting and I didn’t want, I could never overshadow anything that he does, but I don’t want to convolute the water. It would have been a nice crescendo but it wasn’t about me. So the timing was off on that.”
