Following the final night of block competition, AEW star Konosuke Takeshita has advanced to the NJPW G1 Climax 34 playoffs.
Konosuke Takeshita has been a standout in this year’s NJPW G1 Climax 34 tournament with memorable matches against El Phantasmo, Yuya Uemura and Jeff Cobb.
On Night 16 of the tournament, Takeshita defeated Ren Narita to advance to the G1 Climax 34 playoffs and finish the tournament with a 5-4 record (10 points overall). Meanwhile, Yota Tsuji defeated Jeff Cobb in the main event to advance to face Takeshita in the B Block playoffs.
Takeshita will face Tsuji on Night 17 of the G1 this Thursday, August 15 to determine who will face IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion David Finlay in the semifinals this Saturday, August 17.
Over in the A Block, Shingo Takagi defeated Jake Lee, while Great O Khan pulled off an upset win over IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito on Night 15.
Shingo will now face O Khan on Night 17 this Thursday to determine who will face Zack Sabre Jr. in the semifinals this Saturday. The winners on Saturday will face each other in the G1 Climax 34 Finals.
