Tony Khan has addressed an AEW pay-per-view change after All In London on Sunday, August 25.
It was announced on Sunday (August 11), that AEW WrestleDream would be officially returning for its second instalment on Saturday, October 12 in Tacoma Washington.
While the event is once again being held in Washington for the second year running, one change from last year’s event is the day of the week WrestleDream will be hosted – with the inaugural event being held on a Sunday night, whilst the 2024 edition will be on a Saturday.
This change aligns with AEW’s remaining PPV’s for the rest of 2024, with All Out, Full Gear and Worlds End all set to be hosted on Saturdays also.
It’s worth mentioning however, that November’s Full Gear has traditionally always been hosted on a Saturday, with 2023’s Worlds End also being hosted on a Saturday.
Speaking to TVInsider, Tony Khan explained the decision to host more AEW PPVs on Saturdays:
“I tend to do Sunday pay-per-views outside of the NFL season. Then as we get into NFL season more of the events are on Saturdays where it’s less of a crowded football schedule.
“We’ve done a lot of pay-per-views on Sundays this year. Then Q3 and Q4 you’ll see more primarily on Saturdays as more attention is tuned into NFL football. And rightfully so because it is the greatest product and media enterprise in the world.”
Fans have become more custom to Wrestling PPVs on Saturday night following WWE’s own transition to them in 2022 – a move attributed to the company’s President Nick Khan.
