Former TNT Champion Miro, who has been absent from AEW TV for all of 2024 so far, has requested his release from the company.
The last time Miro was in action was the Worlds End pay-per-view on December 30, where he picked up a win over Andrade El Idolo.
Since then, he’s been spending time in Bulgaria and hasn’t appeared for AEW.
Now, Fightful Select reports that Miro has requested his release.
The report notes that Miro was sidelined for “longer than expected” after that Andrade match, but he’s been healthy for “quite some time.”.
It’s said that he and the company haven’t been able to get “on the same page creatively”, and this was a common occurrence throughout the past couple of years. There was said to be “consideration” of including him in the All In London Casino Gauntlet match, and he’d pitched working with Jon Moxley earlier in the year.
He is earning “into the seven figures” on his current contract and is said to have signed a four-year contract extension around spring 2022, so he’s under contract until around spring 2026.
It’s unknown at this point if the release has been/will be granted, nor is it known if there’s WWE interest.
Counting his time in developmental he was with WWE for around 10 years under the name Rusev (originally Alexander Rusev).
He was one of the many names released by WWE in 2020, joining AEW a few months after that.
We’ll keep you posted with any further updates on Miro’s AEW status.
