NBC’s first WWE prime-time special in over sixteen years is likely to take place in December 2024, with it set to take the branding of a fan-favorite event.
It was recently revealed that the location remains unknown but tickets would “go on sale next Friday” according to sources aware of the situation.
There was also ‘internal speculation’ that the show would take place on a ‘Saturday night in December’ under the Saturday Night’s Main Event branding.
Dave Meltzer addressed WWE’s plans to bring back Saturday Night’s Main Event in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, reporting:
Wrestlevotes reported WWE would be announcing a prime-time special on NBC, perhaps on a Saturday night in December.
The deal getting Smackdown on the USA [Network] included four prime-time specials per year on NBC.
We were told by WWE that the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event will be announced very soon so that would indicate this is accurate.
Saturday Night’s Main Event originally aired on NBC between 1985 and 1992, later being revived for a handful of NBC specials between 2006 and 2008.
SmackDown debuts on USA Network on Friday, September 13, with Raw and NXT also airing on the channel as part of WWE Week next week.
A new logo for SmackDown was recently shared on the USA Network website, although the old one still remains on the WWE site.
A trailer was recently shared for WWE Week on USA Network that noted that for “three straight weeks” all three shows will air on the channel with “limited commercial interruption.”
