WWE’s current strategy for re-signing members of its roster has been revealed with “a number of people” being targetted.
It was recently revealed that Asuka had signed a new long-term contract despite being currently injured.
According to Dave Meltzer, this is part of a strategy within WWE targeting talent who have current deals that are coming up.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer revealed details of WWE’s thinking, writing:
WWE went to a number of people whose deals are coming up over the next several months to sign new contracts.
Asuka was announced publicly. There may be others but WWE did not confirm them.
Over in AEW, Swerve Strickland was signed to “one of the biggest deals in company history” recently, while Daniel Garcia had been made a handsome offer, according to reports.
Meltzer had revealed WWE’s reactions to both Strickland and Garcia’s situations, stating they were offered “far over what the company would perceive [as the] market value” for either wrestler.
JJA Sport Studio will provide further updates on these potential contract extensions as they become available.
