An update has emerged on former WWE Champion AJ Styles’ status and future following his recent absence from TV.
AJ Styles hasn’t wrestled a televised match since losing to WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in their I Quit match at Clash At The Castle: Scotland in June.
While Styles did compete during the Japan live event tour in July and August, he did fuel speculation about his potential retirement by hinting that this might’ve been the last time he wrestled in Japan.
Fightful Select has now shared an update on AJ Styles status, reporting that he’s healthy and enjoying time with his family.
The report also noted that “numerous influential names within the industry and some who have worked with Styles” believe that Styles’ WWE contract is up either late this year or early next year.
Fightful was unable to confirm whether WWE has made efforts to re-sign him, or if he has plans moving forward.
Styles has had a number of major matches this year, notably challenging for the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble, Backlash and Clash At The Castle.
He also competed in a major crossover match, defeating Naomichi Marufuji at Pro Wrestling NOAH Destination in July.
We will continue to provide updates on AJ Styles’ status as they become available.
