Ahead of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, top NJPW star Tetsuya Naito has vowed to win back the IWGP World Heavyweight Title at the show.

At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024, Tetsuya Naito will challenge AEW’s Jon Moxley for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
This will be a rematch from NJPW Windy City Riot in April when Moxley beat Naito for the title.
Since then, Moxley has defended the gold on four occasions against the likes of Powerhouse Hobbs, Shota Umino and EVIL. However, he has not appeared on all the NJPW tours in this time.

Ahead of this Sunday’s pay-per-view, Tetsuya Naito sat down with New Japan cameras to discuss why he is challenging Jon Moxley for the top prize in NJPW. He said:
“I feel like the champion should be the best. And Jon Moxley is the champion. Now, he isn’t a NJPW wrestler. So he wrestles in other promotions, but that IWGP title is NJPW’s top belt.”
“So fans are buying a ticket to a NJPW event, they’re coming and saying ‘the champ’s not here? Who is champion anyway?’ That’s not really good for us.”
“The champion making every NJPW event, that’s what’s best. So a regular NJPW wrestler should be the champion. It’s kinda sad to have tours without the champion involved. That’s why I challenged.”

Naito’s Los Ingobernables de Japon stablemates Shingo Takagi, Hiromu Takahashi and Titan will face Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta in a trios bout on the June 26 edition of AEW Dynamite.
