Will Ospreay “would have made more money” in WWE claims Booker T, who also may “feel sorry” for the recent AEW signing.

Ospreay signed with a multi-year deal with it being made public at AEW Full Gear on November 18, 2023.
The deal will allow Ospreay to stay in NJPW until his contract there ends in February 2024, and he’ll also be able to continue residing in the United Kingdom.

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T recently gave his opinion on Ospreay signing with AEW on his Hall of Fame podcast, touching on the money he will make and saying:
“I’m sure Tony Khan took care of him.
“He’s probably making more money now than at any point in the business.
“That part right there is good for him. But I just hope they make this guy a household name and make him a legendary figure … I just wonder.”

Looking at the product that Ospreay will be going into, Booker T discussed his recent experience of AEW television, saying:
“The reason I say that is because I watched [only] a minute of AEW last week, and it was Kota Ibushi coming down a 10-speed bicycle binking guys, and then getting hit with a clothesline.”

Booker T went on to say that if he were watching that as a ‘first time’ fan, it would have put him off continuing to watch AEW, adding:
“If Will Ospreay is going to be doing anything like this, I feel sorry for him.
“But as far as him getting paid, big ups for Will. But as far as his career and legacy he’s going to leave in AEW, I hope those guys think about it because he is truly one of the best wrestlers in the world.”

He would go on to compare his own run in TNA and the money that he made there compared to the WWE royalties he was still receiving, concluding:
“I can see Tony Khan paying him more than what WWE was offering, but I feel Will Ospreay would have made more money [in WWE] just for merchandising.
“When I went to TNA, they paid me a nice check, but I was making more from WWE royalties alone.”

During the AEW Full Gear media scrum, Ospreay explained his reason for choosing AEW as being the “best decision for me and my family.”
