The reason that Dana Massie, the wife of Matt Jackson, left AEW has been revealed and it all stems back to the CM Punk incident.
The incident in question isn’t the AEW All In in London one from August 2023 which would see Punk terminated by the company.
It’s the one that became known as the “brawl out at All Out” that took place in 2022 and came after Punk’s comments during the AEW All Out media scrum.
Massie’s departure from AEW was confirmed by Jackson in a post reflecting on the time as as Chief Marketing & Merchandising Officer.
Revealing further details on Massie’s departure, Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:
“One of the issues with Massie is that while Matt & Nick did sign new deals recently because they got such great deals to stay, there was the feeling that the company never cleared their names publicly nor allowed them to clear their names over the past year plus.
“Part of her leaving, maybe even a big part, was her view on how the company treated her husband and brother-in-law.
“She knows everything about it and saw most of the key things first hand, and particularly that the company never publicly defended her family which allowed people to argue that they were the ones at fault for the blow up of C.M. Punk.”
The Young Bucks were among a number of AEW stars who were suspended following the backstage brawl.
They returned to AEW screens in November 2022 for Full Gear and commented on their suspension on Being The Elite.
A recent interview has revealed that CM Punk and Ace Steel are unable to talk about the incident due to the non-disclosure agreements that they both signed.
