AEW’s Taz has ruled out the possibility of ‘one more match’ having previously confirmed that he’s ‘happily retired from in-ring wars.’
In August 2023, a fan suggested the idea of Taz vs Jack Perry for AEW All In at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
Responding to the suggestion, Taz confirmed he’s “happily retired” and the “one more match” idea was not something he was inclined to consider.
That hasn’t dampened fan interest in seeing the Human Suplex Machine return to the ring, however, with another fan asking if there’s a possibility in a tweet on June 4, 2024.
Taz is unmoved in his stance that he’s not following others in their “one more match” attitude towards wrestling retirement, tweeting:
“I’m 56 years old, I need both shoulders replaced and both knees replaced so there is no shot at all. lol.
“Also, I had/have ZERO desire for “1 last match” for many years. No interest at all, once I left the ring years ago…I have been completely comfortable & happy about it. Back then, I focused moving onto my next career at the announced desk.”
Taz had his final WWE match in 2002, teaming with Rikishi to take on Billy & Chuck at a WWE SmackDown house show in June of that year.
He would return at ECW One Night Stand, beating Jerry Lawler in well under one minute, at the June 2006 event.
2009 would see Taz in TNA as part of the Main Event Mafia and then Aces & Eights before his departure in 2015.
He signed with AEW in January 2020, having made a number of appearances prior to that date, joining the commentary team after a stint as the manager of Team Taz, which featured Brian Cage, Ricky Starks, Powerhouse Hobbs and HOOK.
