An update has emerged on the injury status of MJF after the star dropped his AEW World Championship at Worlds End 2023.

MJF’s 406 day reign with the AEW World Title ended at the December 30 pay-per-view, with Samoa Joe defeating him to win the gold in the show’s main event.
Following the title change it was reported that MJF is now expected to take some time off, with the now-former champion reportedly working through a series of injuries during his title reign.
Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, MJF may have to undergo surgery to fix a shoulder injury, which would keep him out of action for some time.

Meltzer noted:
His shoulder is legitimately hurt.
I was told was that he is either going to have to rehab the shoulder, the main problem, or he may need surgery and just judging from how severe it was, he may need (the surgery) and the surgery would put him out for quite a while.
He is still debating which path to take.

It was previously reported that AEW had always planned for Samoa Joe to win the AEW World Title at Worlds End, regardless of MJF’s injury status.
